An effort to peer billions of light years into space is being called downright myopic. Backlash intensified Friday over a controversial plan to erect a massive telescope atop Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano, an area said to be considered sacred by Native Hawaiian groups. Hawaii Becomes the First State in the U.S. to Ban Plastic Bags!

 When the City Council of Honolulu 
passed a bill to ban single-use plastic grocery bags on Oahu in late April, leaders of the Surfrider Foundation and Sierra Club Hawaii met with the Mayor, who reassured them that he was going to pass it.  True to his word, Mayor Carlisle signed the bill into law on May 11th, making Hawaii the first state in the nation where every county is covered by a plastic bag ban.  This was not done by the state legislature, but instead by all four County Councils - a g...

Getting excited for the "Kick-off Slope Slide" at Crystal Mountain resort this weekend.  We hope to have a day full of gnarly snow sliding!  Bring your ohana (family) and na 'aikane (friends) and enjoy some new snow pack.  We will hold a board meeting at the Bull Wheel Restaurant around noon.  After party at the Snorting Elk Pub, next to the Alpine Inn starts at 4:30pm.  Stay the night as we party with the Island reggae band, Po'okela Street Band, rockin' the Snorting Elk starting at 9:00pm. ...
